Shakthi Peetas

Shakti Peethas are sacred pilgrimage sites dedicated to the Goddess Shakti – the divine feminine energy, formed from the body parts of Goddess Sati after her self-immolation. 51 being the most recognized peetas, they are spread across India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Srilanka. Each Peeta corresponds to a specific body part of Sati, guarded by a Bhairava, a form of Lord Shiva and signifies the omnipresence of Shakti and the union of Shiva-Shakti.

These are also powerful centres of spiritual energy and devotion to the Mother Goddess.
