The Origin of the Sri Nageshwar Jyothirlinga:

According to the Shiva Purana, there lived a demon couple Daruk and Daruka in Darukavanam. They troubled the Hindu devotees and imprisoned them in the dark dungeons of the forest. Supriya, a staunch follower of Lord Shiva, made a Lingam, and continued the Shiva puja rites every day by adorning with the holy ash (Bhasma) and recited the shiva mantras. Impressed by the devotion, Lord Shiva appeared and vanquished the demons thus freeing Supriya and the other prisoners.
