Why Travel to Andaman Nicobar?

Andaman & Nicobar is where you go when you want “Maldives vibes” without leaving India. Think sugar-white beaches like Radhanagar and Elephant Beach, clear turquoise water, lush rainforest and quiet islands that still feel relatively untouched. It’s perfect if you like snorkelling, scuba, glass-bottom boats and bioluminescence in season, or if you just want lazy hammock days with epic sunsets. Add in a bit of history at Cellular Jail in Port Blair, fresh seafood, and a slower island pace, and it becomes an easy pick for honeymoons, family trips or a quick tropical escape.

Here are the main places most people cover in the Andamans, grouped by area so it’s easy to plan:

Port Blair (entry point)

  • Cellular Jail National Memorial – Iconic freedom-struggle site with evening light-and-sound show.
  • Corbyn’s Cove Beach – Quick, easy beach near town for a sunset stroll and basic water sports.
  • Ross Island / Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island – Ruins of old British settlement overrun by roots and deer, short boat ride from Port Blair.
  • North Bay Island – Popular for snorkelling, glass-bottom boats and beginner scuba.
  • Mahatma Gandhi Marine National Park (Wandoor, Jolly Buoy / Red Skin) – Clear water, live corals; permits needed, plastic strictly restricted.

Havelock / Swaraj Dweep

  • Radhanagar Beach (Beach No. 7) – Famous white-sand, turquoise-water sunset beach; regularly listed among India’s best.
  • Elephant Beach – For water sports: snorkelling, sea-walk, banana boat, jet-ski etc. Short boat ride or forest trek.
  • Kalapathar Beach – Quieter stretch with black rocks, good for photos and relaxed mornings.

Neil Island / Shaheed Dweep

  • Bharatpur Beach – Shallow, calm water and coral, great for snorkelling and glass-bottom rides.
  • Laxmanpur Beach – Big open beach known for sunsets.
  • Sitapur Beach – Sunrise point with dramatic rocks and waves.
Natural Bridge (Howrah Bridge) – Rock arch on the shoreline, a classic photo spot.

Baratang & Middle Andaman

  • Baratang Island Limestone Caves – Boat + mangrove creeks + short walk to see limestone formations.
  • Mud Volcano (near Baratang) – Small but unique; usually clubbed with the caves.

North Andaman (more offbeat)

  • Diglipur – Gateway to:
    • Ross & Smith Islands – Two tiny islands joined by a white-sand sandbar.
    • Saddle Peak National Park – Highest point in Andamans, trekking with rainforest views.

Other nature spots

  • Chidiya Tapu – “Sunset Point of Andaman”, also good for birdwatching and a short trek to Munda Pahad.
  • Little Andaman (Hut Bay) – Farther and less commercial: Butler Bay Beach, White Surf & Whisper Wave waterfalls.

???? Nicobar note: Most of the Nicobar group (including tribal areas and North Sentinel Island) is not open for tourism and requires special permits, so typical itineraries focus only on the Andaman group around Port Blair, Havelock, Neil, Baratang and Diglipur.
