All About Sri Sai Baba
He is also called as Fakir (a religious person who lives solely on alms.) The Fakir first made his appearance in Shirdi as a youth and remained there throughout his long life. He transformed the lives of those who met him and continues to do so even after his Samadhi in 1918. Baba stated that his mission is to “Give Blessings” without discrimination to all, and he proves it in numerous ways by healing the sick, saving lives, blessing the vulnerable, preventing accidents, granting offspring, facilitating financial gain, bringing people into harmony within themselves and with each other and, above all, in effecting the spiritual evolution and transformation of those who came to him as the last resort.

The Sai Baba Mandir
The Sai Baba Mandir is located in Shirdi, Maharashtra. The revered spiritual leader is regarded to have lived in Shirdi for most of his life until his death in 1918. After his Mahasamadhi (passing away), his mortal remains were interred in a shrine built thereafter. This is the core of the present temple. The construction of the temple was initiated by Shreemant Gopalrao Buti, a wealthy devotee from Nagpur, who envisioned it as a Wada (residential mansion) for Baba. The temple complex spans over 200 square meters and consists of several sacred sites around the main shrine of Sri Sai Baba:
- The Samadhi Mandir – the main shrine housing Sai Baba’s mortal remains after the mahasamadhi.
- Dwarkamai – the mandir where Sai Baba lived for over 60 years, now preserved with a sacred dhuni (fire which is Still Burning).
- Chavadi – the place where Baba used to sleep on alternate nights.
- Gurusthan – regarded as the spot where Baba was first seen meditating under a Neem Tree.
